Determining Proper Draw Length
Probably the single most important factor when purchasing a new bow is proper draw length. If the draw length is too short, the tendency is to push the shot. If the draw length is to long, you get slapped in the arm as a reminder. In any case improper draw length leads to problems that make your shooting experience unenjoyable because it robs you of good form and accuracy and causes some archers to loose interest. There are several different ways to determine proper draw length, and I am sure they all work well, but if you can’t physically go into an archery shop and get professional help this is my recommendation. Stand with your back to a wall. Extend your arms o.utward at shoulder level, with palms facing out, hands open. Have a friend or companion measure you from finger tip to finger tip of your middle finger. This will tell you your wingspan total. divide by 2.5. This will tell you your proper draw length.Example, 73 inch wing span. Divide by 2.5.Your draw length would be 29 inches. If you intend to use a string loop subtract another inch.
Choosing the bow that’s right for you can seem complicated., but it’s really not that difficult at all, if you understand what you want from a particular set up. Never settle for anything less than exactly what you want. Don’t be so brand specific that you fail to see what others are offering. After all it’s your money, and your experience. Hopefully after reading this article you will be more knowledgeable on how to make the right decision. Good luck and good hunting
This is probably the most critical element in fitting a custom bow, please make sure this measurement is accurate before placing an order.
